1. When installing a graphical desktop environment from the feature menu, some firefox packages were automatically removed, leading to residual firefox files. In this update, the apt tool will now handle the removal of these packages automatically.

• New Features and Optimizations

1. Faster Kali image extraction: The speed of extracting Kali image files has been improved. When decompressing .xz and .tar files, a single pv progress bar is used: pv is now utilized to pipe and extract tar contents, while hiding tar’s output.

2. Automatic switch to Xonsh shell after Proot exit: Upon exiting the Proot container, users will automatically be switched to the Xonsh shell. If you exit Kali CLI using the exit command, you'll receive the prompt: Do you want to restart Kali Linux? (y/n):. Selecting "y" restarts Kali and brings you back to the feature menu, while selecting "n" will take you into the Xonsh shell. If you exit Proot outside of Kali CLI using CTRL+C, it may directly take you to the Xonsh shell.

3. Configuration file update to YAML: The configuration file format has been updated to YAML, with the filename changed to Ankali.yaml. It can be found in the Proot directory /.kali-config. The old configuration file Ankali.conf has been deprecated.

4. SSH server startup feature added to the feature menu: Using the Dropbear SSH server tool, SSH service can now be enabled within Ankali. How to start the SSH service in Ankali? This is a hidden feature called Start SSH service, and it can be activated by following these steps:
   Navigate through the Ankali feature menu:
   Settings → Dropbear SSH service Settings → Initialize Dropbear
   This installs the Dropbear package. After installation, additional options will appear in the Dropbear SSH service Settings menu. You can configure the port, IP address, and other parameters (or use default settings). When you return to the Ankali feature menu, the hidden option [98] Start SSH service will appear. For client-side connections to the SSH server, you need to set a password for SSH authentication. This can be done by selecting Set root account password from the feature menu. Once set, enter 98 to start the SSH service in the foreground. By default, you can connect to Ankali from a supported SSH client or tool using the following command:

   ssh -p 8022 [email protected]
   

   Upon successful connection, you'll automatically be directed to the Ankali feature menu.

• Bug Fixes:

  1. In previous versions, users would enter the Kali CLI directly into zsh without logging into the shell.

     • Change: This version will use the -l parameter to log into the Kali CLI shell, ensuring a proper login shell.

  2. In desktop environments like XFCE, the default Firefox browser may have issues with frequent crashes or instability.

     • Change: The default Firefox browser will be removed and replaced with Chromium. If Chromium encounters issues, users can use the Chromium repair feature from the Ankali function menu in the desktop environment.

  3. Shortcuts were previously seen as a necessary feature, and we do not want to see functionality without shortcuts.

     • Change: Shortcuts will now be automatically implemented during initialization, and the shortcut option in settings will be removed.

  4. The Cinnamon desktop environment failed to install correctly in previous versions.

     • Change: The Cinnamon desktop environment may have been deprecated and is no longer installable in Ankali. We will remove the installation option for this desktop environment.

• New Features:

  1. Some functionalities will now include table representations to make features more straightforward and user-friendly.

  2. A new feature has been added to correct system time errors for the China region when the system language is set to Chinese.

  3. New desktop environments E17 (Enlightenment) and i3 (i3wm) have been added. They can be found under the Install GUI Graphical Desktop function.

  4. During Ankali initialization, the kali-linux-core package will be automatically installed to supplement basic components and dependencies.

  5. A new option, Experience a complete basic set of Kali tools, has been added in settings for installing an extended set of essential Kali tools.

  6. The function menu now includes an option to Install the basic default toolset for installing the essential default set of Kali tools.

• Software Bugs
  1. An error occurs when using the desktop if a VNC password is not set.
  Change: Users will now be prompted to set a password when starting the VNC service.

  2. The desktop fails to activate undercover mode.
  Change: The Ankali function menu, when launched from the graphical desktop, will include a feature to fix undercover mode, addressing issues where undercover mode could not be activated directly.

  3. Tmoe has no default language, and fonts are unsupported.
  Change: Some Tmoe configuration files have been removed. Tmoe will now be used exclusively within the graphical desktop environment.

  1. Updates to the CLI commands, including ankali. The startup commands will be updated as symbolic links, depending on whether the shortcut feature is enabled.

  2. Programs that display the Ankali function menu on the graphical desktop will now depend on whether the shortcut feature is enabled.

  3. Added an option to enable or disable shortcuts, which will appear after the language selection in the function menu.

  4. Settings now include an option to enable or disable shortcuts.

  5. Added more language options for system configuration, updating 37 additional languages for a total of 72 languages. Note that not all languages are fully supported by Kali. Due to time constraints, each language has not been tested individually.
