The transition to the new GUI technology JavaFX is reaching a milestone where most of the entry editor is already migrated.
This beta3 release should encourage you to test the new user interface, especially the new entry editor, as we feel that it can be released soon.

This is version 3.3 of JabRef, which is the result of JabCon 2016 and huge subsequent work.
One main change is that the help is now available at http://help.jabref.org/ and that volunteers can suggest changes easily using the GitHub way of contributing.
A detailed changelog is available at the CHANGELOG.md of v3.3.
Please follow our blog for latest news and descriptions of (new) features.

This is version 3.2 of JabRef, where we fixed some issues. See CHANGELOG.md of v3.2 for a complete list of changes.
We still really need more developers. There are many small issues, which should not cause much effort to tackle. However, the current development team doesn't have the resources to handle them, since there are many other issues that addressed somehow.
The current way of contributing seems to work fine and also is proven to be suitable for Java newcomers - at least in two cases. So, please think of how you can help to improve JabRef.

This is version 3.1 of JabRef - the Christmas 2015 edition. It contains many fixes and improvements. The most important improvement is the writing of BibTeX entries. Now, only changed entries are rewritten according to JabRef's writing settings. All other entries remain unchanged. This should ease collaboration with users using old versions of JabRef.
See CHANGELOG.md of v3.1 for a complete list of changes.

This is a bugfix release for JabRef 2.11.

We are glad to announce the release of JabRef 2.11. There was a long discussion whether we should release 2.11 or whether we should drop that release completely and focus on the next major release of JabRef. Since JabRef 2.11 is the last version with Java6 and plugin support, we decided to push the release to offer others to take over maintenance if desired.
The integration of plugin functionality into JabRef is tracked at https://github.com/JabRef/jabref/issues/152. Feel free to comment there.
It is planned to release JabRef 3.0 at the end of this year, so please regard JabRef 2.11 as bugfix release for JabRef 2.10.
If you are going to try this version, please save your preferences: Options -> Preferences -> Export preferences.
If JabRef does not start, you can send us your preferences and we can investigate that issue. In case you are not relying on your preferences, you can reset them by starting JabRef with java -jar JabRef-2.11.jar --prdef all -n
. Issues reported and resolved by resetting the preferences: https://github.com/JabRef/jabref/issues/149, https://github.com/JabRef/jabref/issues/174, and https://github.com/JabRef/jabref/issues/282.
MAC OS X: To run JabRef 2.11 at Mac OS X, you have to download the jar
file and double click that.
With JabRef 3.0, we will produce a real Mac OS X application again.

This is going to be the last beta in the 2.11 series. It will be the last version with Java 6 and plugin support. Please show up if you see any show stoppers. Otherwise, we will release as is.

The main highlight of this version is the new MacOSX integration.
We had to include one breaking change, because we modernized the libraries used by JabRef:
It is not possible any more to pass an option file to the CLI command.
If anyone needs that, please show up on the mailing list and we try to sort things out.
Behind the scenes, we are working hard to modernize the development and the code.
Please fork and contribute!
